PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
I would like to thank the residents of the Village of Deerfield for electing me to the position of Village President. I look forward to working with other Board members and Deerfield residents to improve the Village. I will try to make myself very accessible to anyone with problems or concerns. I also encourage the public to attend committee and board meetings to express concerns.
There are many projects underway in our village presently. A few of the major ones are:
1) The Fire Station/EMS addition is almost completed. Trustee Greg Frutiger and members of the Deerfield Fire Department donated both materials and many hours of labor to increase the quality of the addition.
2) The joint EMS is reorganizing. A new director has been hired and he has instituted changes to improve the response time to village residents. (Emergency response personnel have moved into the new Fire Station/EMS addition).
3) We are currently working on a long-term contract with Dane County for shared police service with the Village of Cambridge.
4) There is a special meeting on May 21, 2007 to discuss the long-term land use of Fireman’s Park. For more information, please contact the village hall.
5) TID funding is being discussed to assist downtown, renovations and street improvements.
6) Walt Olson’s Drumlin Hills subdivision, to the east of Community Park, is moving forward with construction beginning this spring.
New projects in the Village include:
1) Development of the Nelson Farm across from the elementary school on Liberty Street.
2) Expansion of TID #3 to allow for additional commercial development in the downtown area.
3) Construction of a new well.
4) Street reconstruction and sidewalk improvements in the downtown area.
5) Possible creation of a new TID on the South side of the Village to assist in the possible construction of a new grocery store.
Financial goals of the Village Board include the development of a 5-year capital improvement plan decreasing the village debt and an attempt to decrease monthly utility bills.
I wish to thank Arnie Evensen for his many years of service to the Village.
John Mathews, Village President

DEERFIELD BIKE RODEO
On Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM the Deerfield Police Department, along with the Deerfield Community Center and Deerfield JFF will host the 4th annual Bike Rodeo. The bike rodeo will be held at the Deerfield Elementary School. A bike rodeo is designed to be a fun, educational and hands-on way for children and parents to learn about bike safety. A bike rodeo is a great resource to introduce young bike riders and their parents to necessary skills to operate a bike safely.
This year’s bike rodeo participants will receive free bike helmets donated by Habush, Habush and Rottier. They will also receive free t-shirts, goodie bags and a certificate of participation once they have completed the bike rodeo course.
All participants will be served lunch by the Deerfield Joining Forces for Families and there will be new bikes raffled off at the event. The bikes were purchased with donations from local Deerfield businesses. Come and join the fun on May 12, 2007!
If you have any questions, please contact Deputy Heidi Gardner at (608) 423-8076.
