Refuse, Recycling & Leaf

REFUSE - It is the responsibility of the owner or occupant of a residence or business to have their garbage at the curbside on pick-up day.  Pick up day for the village is every Thursday.  Have your garbage and recycling out to the curb by 6:00 am.  Your garbage should be in plastic bags or in 32 gallon containers weighting no more than 60 lbs. each.  If a legal holiday falls in a particular week, then the pick up day is Friday (i.e.  Labor Day is on a Monday, the pick up day is moved from Thursday to Friday in that week only).  Once the garbage collectors have passed a certain street, they will not return.  If you are out of town on that particular day, please have a friend or neighbor set the garbage out for you and collect them when emptied.

For items such as refrigerators, washers, dryers and other large household items please contact Veolia Environmental Services at 1-800-248-2373 for special pick up arrangements at least 48 hours prior to collection day.  There is no charge for collection of these items.  However, special equipment is needed for pick up.

Please remember that this service is for garbage only.  The garbage collector will not collect leaves, clippings or brush, medical waste or wet paint or hazardous materials. 

RECYCLING - Veolia collects recyclables at the curbside along with your refuse on the same day.  Place your recyclables in the special recycling containers provided.  These containers are to be left with the residence if you move.  Newspaper, cardboard, waste oil and vehicle batteries can be placed along side your recyling container.  Please keep your recyclables separate from your other garbage and easily accessible.  Items to be recycled are:

Transfer Site - The Village transfer site is located at 733 London Road. This site is available for Village residents to dipose of their compost and clean burnable wood only.  Please contact John Doyle, Public Works Director for more information 764-5497.

LEAF & COMPOST - As a service to residents, the village collects leaves, garden waste and brush.  The village will collect, vacuum and/or chip all leaves, tree limbs and brush at scheduled times during the year.  The Village will NOT pick up grass clippings.  If, property owners wish to dispose of grass clipping they may take them to the transfer site located at 733 London Road.

Brush pick up and tree/limb chipping is scheduled throughout the year on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Please observe that tree limbs must not exceed four feet in length.

Leaf/garden waste collection is scheduled for several Mondays in both the spring and the fall. Check the Events Calendar here on the website for exact dates. Leaves must be brought to the curb in order to be picked up. Conditions for leaf collection are as follows:
