Voter Registration

The Statewide Voter Registration System
As of January 1, 2006, state law requires all voters to be registered. Federal law requires all registered voter information be stored in a centralized, state system. To meet these requirements, the State of Wisconsin has developed WisVote. Once registered in the system, a voter’s registration and voter history will follow that voter wherever they vote in Wisconsin.

When to Register
The sooner the better.  Up to 20 days before an election you can register to vote by mail or online.  You may register in-person until the Friday before the election at 5:00 p.m. or the close of business in the municipal clerk's office.  You can also register to vote at the polls on election day.

How to Register
Persons wishing to register must:

Absentee Voting
Under Wisconsin law, voters do not need a reason to vote absentee.  Any voter who prefers to vote by absentee ballot may request one and there are many options for requesting an absentee ballot.  If you are not already registered to vote in the Village of Deerfield, you will need to register to vote before an absentee ballot can be sent to you.

Absentee Ballot Request Form EL-121
If you are already registered to vote in the Village, simply download the application for Absentee Ballot (EL-121) from the link above.  Complete the form and mail, e-mail or drop off  to the Village of Deerfield.  Your application must be received by the Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the election in order for an absentee ballot to be sent to you.  Once received, a ballot will be mailed to you with return postage supplied (domestic mail only).  The ballot must be received by 8pm on Election Day in order to be counted. Each voter must return or mail their own ballot in person, drop box ballots will not be counted.
See Wisconsin Elections Commission Absentee Voting for additional information.

In-Person Absentee Voting
You may also choose to vote absentee in person, you may do so at the Village Hall.  In person Absentee voting starts on the 2nd Tuesday before the election and ends at 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before the election.  There is no absentee voting the day before any election.

Permanent Absentee Status
If getting to the polls is a physical hardship, you can apply for permanent absentee ballot status with the Village of Deerfield Clerk.  Once you have permanent absentee ballot status, a ballot will be sent to you automatically as long as you return each one.
